With the growing popularity of the Manx on the Banx (held during October of 2011 and 2012), this particular time of the year could be considered more of an informal, much lighter-weight version of the annual MOTB (Manx Club membership will not be required for participation during this particular weekend).  Hopefully, because St. Patrick’s Day is about 7 months away from the annual Manx on the Banx, it would not interfere with the participation rate for the fall event.  In fact, it may even give an opportunity for some dune buggy owners to not only check out the area, but to use is as a preliminary “test run” in preparation for the Manx Club - sponsored, week-long 2013 Manx on the Banx (www.manxonthebanx.com).

The First Flight Cruisers Car Club OBX - NC will also be holding their annual car show, along with other events scattered through these same days.  The First Flight Cruisers (www.firstflightcruisers.com) have been holding their Shamrock Car Show on this particular weekend for the last several years.  In addition to the car show itself, they also host a Welcome - Reception Dinner, Poker Run, along with group participation in the Kelly’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  These individual events will be considered optional; we can either choose to join in with their group and schedule, or we can work on alternative ideas (some dune buggy owners may choose to do a combination of both).

IMPORTANT UPDATE (March 9, 2013):

I really hated to do this with all of the prior planning and all, but I canceled my hotel reservation at the OBX for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The extended forecast for those particular days project high temps only in the mid - 40s (approximately 20 degrees colder than average temps for that particular weekend), and sitting around watching those local car club vehicle owners with roofs, windows, and heaters is definitely not my idea of having a good time. Since Scott is a local resident, he will still be available for anyone that plans to attend, his cell number is 201-739-5834 and his email address is scott@banxbug.com.  I hope to see everyone at this year's upcoming Manx on the Banx, coming up in October.

HOWEVER, hopefully this annual “Buggies at the Beach” concept is not really that bad of an idea; maybe we just need to rethink time and place. For the past few years, split-window VW bus guys have been gathering in April down near Daytona Beach for the annual No Dough VW Bus Show. This event weekend had morphed into an all-around air-cooled VW gathering; so the makings are there to piggyback off that event. Please stay tuned at buggiesatthebeach.com for more details. Here is a thread that describes the No Dough VW Show in more detail; enjoy:
